Local and national changes mean West Lancashire Council aims to update its housing allocation policy, which was last done in 2018
The weight attached to people’s local connections to a parish, village or town when allocating West Lancashire council houses or other affordable homes needs a re-think, councillors have heard.
However, the Westminster government’s Homeless Reduction Act says people should be seen earlier in the housing request and allocation process. Single people who are domestic abuse victims are now given similar status to larger families facing abuse. She said the council would also match people in some categories to suitable housing rather than them have to bid for home through the Homefinder website. It has homes for rent from the council and other housing organisations.
VILLAGE AND TOWN HOUSING NEEDS In reply to the draft housing allocation policy, Conservative Coun Edward Pope said: “I think these are all sensible changes and the housing team has obviously looked at what is going on. I would support the recommendations.”
