The Rockville Centre St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set to take place on Saturday. Over the last 27 years, organizers say the parade has always been rain or shine.
The threat of heavy rain and flooding put a damper on many weekend plans, with some events canceled or postponed.
"We are here. We're the parade that cares and shares,” said Margaret McGuire, the parade day manager."Questionable choice, but I get it,” said Joseph Kempton, of Valley Stream. “This town is great with Irish pride and all that.""We have the village involved, the police commissioner, the fire department commissioner involved and everybody has had a bit of input in making this decision,” said Jackie Kerr, the parade president.
Other parades have already made other plans. Lindenhurst postponed its parade to March 30. Brentwood canceled its parade. Amagansett's parade is also currently still on for Saturday. Adventureland's opening day celebration was also expected to take place on Saturday. It tells News 12 it will make a decision in the morning about whether it's still on."The Irish are not, we're not the fair-weather friend kind of people,” she said. “We're sink or swim or rain or shine."
The parade there starts at 12 p.m., and organizers say it may end a little earlier because of the rain.
