'We've made it': Jackson takes center stage after being confirmed to U.S. Supreme Court
"I have to give thanks to God for delivering me as promised and for sustaining me throughout this nomination and confirmation process," Jackson said.
Jackson, who will become the first Black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, also thanked President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris for the historic nomination. "It has taken 232 years and 115 prior appointments for a Black woman to be selected to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States—but we've made it," Jackson said.
When introducing Jackson, Biden said one of the reasons he ran for president was because he wanted the opportunity to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court.Harris, the first woman to serve as vice president, noted that"today is indeed a wonderful day."
