This means agencies would have to acknowledge they received the request within 10 business days and issue a response 15 business days after that. Alabama ranked last in the country when it comes to responsiveness to requests for records, according to aThe bill’s sponsor said it doesn’t surprise him to hear where the state lands on that list.
“We need the transparency that comes with open records and easy access by the public,” Sen. Orr said. “This is not a hard issue to solve. Many other states, cities, counties have solved this issue. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel here in Alabama. We just need to hold government accountable.”
