That’s why it’s important to make sure your body is getting enough of it, especially in the wintertime.“One of the best ways to get vitamin D is through UV rays from the sun–something we see less of in the winter months,” explained Kristin Kirkpatrick, a registered dietitian for Cleveland Clinic.Salmon, mushroom and egg yolks are just some of the foods that naturally have vitamin D.

Kirkpatrick said that’s why it’s important to work with your doctor to figure out if you need a vitamin D supplement. “A key factor here is not just going to the store, getting a vitamin D supplement and dosing yourself,” Kirkpatrick said. “You want to work with a health practitioner to find out how much your body needs, what makes sense for you and how long you would need to be on this dose.”
