'No-no Joe' works with San Diego-based Nixon watches to give something special on opening day; 'It meant a lot,' Jose Azocar says
In 2020, Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove bestowed San Diegans with the organization’s first no-hitter.This year, he’s found a way to give his teammates time.On opening day, every player in the Padres clubhouse received a personalized Nixon watch, courtesy of Musgrove, along with a note that included the phrase: “King of the hill starts today … See ya at the top.” The gold-tone stainless steel watch features a black case and gold bezel and is anchored by a gold metal band.
“I was messing around with some of the guys who were like, ‘Hey dude, thanks for the watch’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s so you don’t forget what time it is,” he said, laughing. “But yeah, it was moreso just getting them something cool. Some of those guys didn’t have any watches at all. It’s something nice to wear on the plane.”“It meant a lot,” said outfielder José Azocar, now in his second major league season.
