Breaking local news in Boksburg
Heavy rainfall along the Garden Route last night and continuing wet conditions this morning have seen numerous roads closed due to mudslides and trees falling. Authorities have warned people living in low-lying areas to keep an eye on water levels so they can evacuate in time should flooding occur.
In George the municipality said this morning that Kaaiman’s Pass is partially closed due to a landslide while Saasveld Road was closed due to fallen trees.While residents in low-lying areas were urged to keep an eye on water levels and evacuate if it keeps rising.The Great Brak, Leeukloof and Kouma, and Ruiterbos rivers are in flood while road closures are imminent on the Geelbeksvlei Road and the access road to Leeukloof.
Henry Meyer, area manager of Agri Western Cape who farms in Ruitebos near Mossel Bay, has warned motorists to avoid roads that are flooded. Meyer says he was out this morning to investigate roads and had to assist in freeing two vehicles that got stuck. He warned that the water might look shallow, but there was a risk of vehicles being washed away because one could not be sure of the depth or how strongly the water was flowing across roads.
