The Washington Commanders have cut to former Pittsburgh Steelers players on Tuesday.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant warms up before an NFL football game against the Cleveland Browns, Sunday, Sept. 10, 2017, in Cleveland. The Washington Commanders are cutting former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant and cornerback James Pierre. Bryant scored his first touchdown in the NFL since 2018 on Sunday, capping his career revival. Even after being cut,who had his best season with the Steelers in 2015, posting 765 receiving yards.

He stayed suspended for five years after the Steelers traded him to the then-Oakland Raiders and had stints in the CFL and XFL before being reinstated last year. The Steelers did not sign him after his reinstatement to the league, but he returned with the Dallas Cowboys. As for Pierre, he was a special teams standout for years on the Steelers, particularly doing strong work at gunner. He never fully developed as an outside cornerback after the team signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic in 2020. Still,an NFL path for himself through his special teams acumen, and could be a possible player the Steelers circle back to if they decide to add to the cornerback position.

The Deerfield Beach, Florida, native signed with the Commanders after four seasons with the Steelers. He and Miles Boykin were the gunners for the Steelers in 2023, and both have been released. With Pittsburgh’s need at gunner, it can not be ruled out that a reunion with both players could make sense.
