Former Pittsburgh Steelers center J.C. Hassenauer is being released by the Washington Commanders.
Pittsburgh Steelers center J.C. Hassenauer plays in an NFL football game against the Washington Football Team, Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, in Pittsburgh. The New York Giants snapped Hassenauer up on April 7, 2023, but he did not make it through much of training camp. He suffered a torn tricep on August 1 and missed the rest of the season.
Hassenauer joined the Steelers in 2019 after being cut by the Atlanta Falcons in 2018. An undrafted free agent out of Alabama, Hassenauer did not get to play much under Nick Saban with the Crimson Tide. But he could play all three interior spots, and his versatility helped him gain a spot on the Steelers’ practice squad., where Hassenauer made his first career start against the Baltimore Ravens.
The 28-year-old center has started seven games in his NFL career, all with the Steelers, and played in 46 games. He will look to snag elsewhere as a veteran option, and it could be an option for the Steelers behind Zach Frazier if they want to find veteran insurance.
