The advice was issued as part of National Pension Tracing Day
, which aims to reunite people with their lost pensions. The campaign was founded by Alan Morahan, who is urging people to use the additional hour we received when the clocks went back this weekend to check for lost or forgotten pensions.
"National Pension Tracing Day aims to get people thinking about any pensions they may have mislaid and give them the tools to help track them down. And they can do so for free.” The expert is urging people to think back and use its checklist to see if they might have overlooked a pension, particularly if they have changed jobs or moved house.
Mr Morahan is a chief commercial officer for Punter Southall and the finance company has constructed a five step checklist to help people trace down any lost pensions. Pensioners are then advised to search old paperwork and emails for old pension statement. It added: "Take your time. Finding an old pension is like paying yourself money you didn’t know you had."
