The region is expected to start fall with a warm spell.
Thursday marks the start of the weather shift as high pressure that's associated with warmer, drier conditions builds into the region.
Temperatures are expected to slowly climb through the weekend; Saturday is forecast to be the warmest day of the week with coastal locations in the mid- to high 70s and inland valleys in the 90s, the weather service said. The far interior East Bay — Livermore, Concord, Byron and Discovery Bay — are expected to see the hottest temperatures in the region, with highs in the mid-90s.
"It's going to be above-normal temperatures but not even close to being on par with the last heat wave and it will be far from record values," said weather service meteorologist Matt Mehle.
