“The Complaint Response Unit at DOH has attempted to enter the private detention facility four times but has been denied entry. We hope the facility will allow entry for our department to complete an investigation and offer resources to improve conditions for individuals in the facility,” the DOH told KOMO News in a statement.
The NWIPC is a federal facility owned by ICE, which contracts its operations to Florida-based "The GEO Group." GEO operates 50 secure facilities across the country,"The has statutory authority to investigate violations or threatened violations of public health laws and to have free and unimpeded access to all buildings to do so. GEO has refused the from entering the NWIPC to conduct its investigation,” the lawsuit stated.
