Voting stations at Vhuwani, Gazankulu and Hitekani schools in Chiawelo saw few voters trickling-in in the cold with their identity documents in hand.Pensioner Patricia Baloyi, aged 74, was in the first group to enter and vote when the station opened at 7am.“My vote has always worked for me since 1994. We have electricity and water and our government pension has improved,” she said.
“I was expecting a long queue, but there are a few people and the line moves fast and smooth. In no time I will be back home,” said Eunice Moloi as she waited in a short queue to cast her ballot. The queue was also short at the Lethabong community creche, although the elections presiding officer apologised that voting did not start at 7am as scheduled due to equipment failure.People who had just voted said the process was generally smooth and quick and praised the conduct of Electoral Commission of South Africa officials.
In eThekwini, voters started queuing outside Carrington Primary School in Umbilo early on Wednesday morning to make their mark in Wednesday’s general election.
