Voster was disappointed and said the IEC had five years to prepare and things were not going very smoothly.

Voting got off to a slow start at a St George’s Park polling station in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, with hundreds of voters arriving before the ballot boxes did.

The voting on Wednesday is the country’s sixth general elections since the dawn of democracy in 1994. In Polokwane, voting got off to a brisk start on Wednesday as residents came out in numbers to cast their votes at various voting stations across the city despite the early morning overcast and chilly weather.

“All that I want for our country is that everybody get together and stand together with no fighting, but speak about things that trouble them. I want to bring my part for a better country,” Kruger said. But both voting stations had a strong presence of political party agents who were observing whether the voting process was proceeding smoothly.
