Villanova rides experienced core back to Final Four, beating Houston

Samuels finished with a game-high 16 points Saturday.SAN ANTONIO — One of the few glimpses of emotion from Villanova arrived as the game’s final seconds ticked off, when fifth-year senior guard Collin Gillespie threw the ball off the backboard and raised four fingers in the air.
For Gillespie, a reserve on the Villanova team that won the 2018 national championship in San Antonio, Saturday was his moment to cut down the nets as one of the main cogs of an experienced unit. “In a year where I don’t think there’s any great teams in college basketball,” UH coach Kelvin Sampson said, “Villanova’s got as good a chance as anybody.”
“Having veteran players is the key to that, guys that have been in that moment before,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said. “It feels great, man. It feels great to be going back to the Final Four. It never gets old. It is a dream of every player and coach in college basketball. It’s the ultimate. We’re going to enjoy this.”
