Amid an extended layoff through December, Chris Holtmann says he's 'optimistic' that the Buckeyes' COVID-19 troubles are coming to an end as they prepare for a Sunday return.

Ohio State is “on track” to make its long-awaited return against Nebraska Sunday, according to Chris Holtmann.

The Buckeye head coach spoke with members of the media on a Zoom call Friday, detailing the challenges presented by an extended COVID-19 layoff that has stopped Ohio State from playing a game since defeating Wisconsin on Dec. 11. Games against Kentucky, UT Martin and New Orleans have all been nixed over the past few weeks, but Holtmann said he's"optimistic" that the Buckeyes' COVID-19 issues are now in the rearview mirror.

"You're kind of glad that it happened at a time where we were gonna miss a significant amount of Big Ten play," Holtmann said. Ohio State will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, on New Year's Day ahead of its 8 p.m. scheduled tip-off against the Cornhuskers, and you can hear everything Holtmann said in Friday's interview in the video above.
