“I was driving down the freeway and started to notice there was a high-speed chase going on,” said Lizi Heaps, a witness known asVideo filmed by Heaps shows a trooper stopped in the middle of the freeway.
The trooper exits his vehicle, raises his gun, and fires multiple shots. “Right as I started filming, the guy stopped right in front of my car and got out,” Heaps said. “He was so angry, storming over to the trooper like he was ready to attack.” According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the incident began just before 5 p.m. when a reckless driver rear-ended the trooper near 4500 South on northbound I-15 and continued driving. The trooper attempted to pull the driver over. The suspect eventually stopped in the middle of the freeway near 3300 South. “The guy was going super fast, then slowing down to almost nothing. He was trying to swerve into the trooper,” Heaps said. Both the trooper and the suspect exited their vehicles. At one point, DPS said, the suspect pulled out a knife.
