Spot fires are flaring up 11 kilometres ahead of an east Gippsland fire front that has residents in an isolated coastal town preparing to evacuate by boat.

An emergency warning is in place for Seacombe, Loch Sport, Briagolong, Stockdale, Iguana Creek and Glenaladale in Victoria. Keep up to date withtripled in size overnight and is pushing towards the Princes Highway as coastal residents in Loch Sport brace for a flare-up with a wind change this afternoon.

Authorities said "unexpected conditions" meant the fire had crossed Beverleys Road at Briagolong and was heading in a south-easterly direction towards the highway. "We will see the wind swing from a northerly to a westerly-south-westerly direction and that's going to push the fire in an easterly direction," he said.

Loch Sport Caravan Park manager Ray Johnson said the park had been evacuated and about 80 people were taking shelter together at the Marina Hotel and boat ramp car park."It's not far at the back of the caravan park, it's on both sides of the road now, it's jumped the road, it's burning towards Golden Beach and Loch Sport.Power company Ausnet said about 2,000 properties were without power.

Temperatures on Thursday are forecast to plunge to 10–14 degrees Celsius, with snow falling in locations 1,400 metres above sea level and heavy rain possible in the south.
