Criminals have released legal files from several Victorian government departments onto the dark web after a cyber attack on a law firm.
Victoria's Chief Information Security Officer David Cullen on Friday said HWL Ebsworth had confirmed government information had been posted.
The Victorian government information released relates to work HWL Ebsworth has carried out for several departments and agencies. "We are taking this matter extremely seriously, and are working in partnership with the Commonwealth government," he said in a statement. "Because we know data breaches can be distressing, especially when personal information is involved."He said assurances had been sought from HWL Ebsworth about the cyber protections in place for government information.
