The stunning mural was officially opened on Good Friday
An eye-catching mural has been unveiled at a Nottinghamshire village's railway station. The colourful design was revealed at 11am on Good Friday on Platform 1 at Attenborough Station, near Beeston.
The mural adds to the more than 50 pieces of street art in Beeston and the surrounding area and the 25 planters on the platform. The mural has finally been completed after a stop-and-start process, brought on by periods of wet weather. The mural was created by artist, Elliot Caine, who has carried out similar projects locally in the past. His latest design incorporates some of the main attraction of the village, including the Nature Reserve and Centre and the Norman Church. It also shows a Midlands Rail train in its original red 1864 livery, the date the station was built.
An official opening was held at 11am on Good Friday which was attended by volunteers and representatives from Nottinghamshire County Council, Brotowe Borough Council and East Midlands Railways. The volunteers at Attenborough Station, the Attenborough Elderflowers, was an off-shoot of the local gardening club in 2017.
In 2018, thirteen planters made from recycled materials and made by volunteers were installed on Platform 1 to Nottingham. Funding has been from various sources including the national lottery, local people and businesses, the County and Borough Councils and East Midlands Railway.
