Take a trip to explore these culinary gems
What's better than a drink down the pub? Food, of course. Nottinghamshire has a vast array of public houses from big name chains to locally-owned hostelries.
Starters served include seared halloumi with sumac, Japanese fried chicken, and black pepper roasted cauliflower with a sweet and spicy sauce. When it comes to mains, they don't try to invent the wheel and stick to classic pub grub - but it's quality pub grub done really well. They say: "We offer a modest, but always interesting menu, which will change regularly to benefit from locally sourced seasonal produce." Specials, reflecting the best quality produce available, currently include a lavish lobster and steak platter.
Otherwise dishes come and go - currently you'll find roast cod fillet with coconut chickpea stew, confit duck leg in a rhubarb red wine sauce and chicken with Iberico chorizo in a bourguignon sauce. You say: Service was brilliant, very kind and attentive. All the food was delicious, and the passion fruit pastilles a very inventive idea that definitely worked. Great value also."Martin's Arms With new owners at the helm after the retirement of the long-term proprietors, the pub in Nottinghamshire's poshest village, Colston Bassett, continues to earn plaudits. Located in a grade II listed building, it encapsulates all that is best in an English pub.
Diners can sit in the 'Garden Room', the 'Old Village Shop' or the main body of the stylishly decorated pub. It doesn't really play on any kind of cricketing theme apart from the 'Bats', which are sharing platters served on long wooden boards.
