UVALDE , Texas - Officers, deputies, firefighters, and medical response professionals gathered at the Sgt. Willie De Leon Civic Center in Uvalde on Wednesday for a first-of-its-kind training in the area.
Medical personnel tagged virtual victims according to what level of care they needed, transporting them to ambulances to get to a nearby hospital. All of these agencies got to practice working together and communicating in these scenarios, learning the same emergency response language, and familiarizing themselves with how the response should work if a tragedy ever arises in the future.
Officers had to practice the division of resources, quickly and efficiently getting both scenes handled and communicating clearly through all of it. Dispatchers communicated with officers, who communicated with medics, and officers even addressed the media at the end of the incident at a simulated press conference.
Families of loved ones who died at Robb Elementary in 2022, and survivors from those classrooms, have been calling for training and preparation like this.
