UTSA outlasts North Texas in dramatic finish, remaining unbeaten in Conference USA

North Texas' Kaylon Horton is tackled by UTSA safety Sean-Thomas Faulkner during the NCAA Conference USA football game against North Texas Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.UTSA quarterback Frank Harris connected with De’Corian Clark on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 15 seconds remaining, and the Roadrunners survived a dramatic final quarter to beat North Texas 31-27 Saturday in the Alamodome.

Entering a much-needed open week, the injury-plagued Roadrunners sit alone atop the league standings, snapping an eight-game C-USA win streak for the Mean Green . Harris finished 27 of 39 for 238 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, while Brenden Brady ran for 112 yards and two scores. The Roadrunners’ next three drives resulted in a turnover on downs, a missed 36-yard field goal and a punt before Jared Sackett put UTSA on the board with a 32-yard kick late in the second quarter, pulling the score to 6-3 at halftime.

North Texas needed just more than a minute to answer with its first touchdown of the day, as Aune hit Roderic Burns for a 54-yard gain down the right sideline and then connected with Jake Roberts for a 10-yard touchdown and a 13-10 advantage. With the Roadrunners sucked toward the line of scrimmage by play action, Roberts snuck out the back side of the formation and was wide open, strolling into the end zone uncontested.
