Utah State is reportedly closing in on a deal with Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobson to lead the men's basketball program, according to reports ESPN college insider Pete Thamel said the sides are finalizing a five-year deal for Jacobson to take over for the outgoing Jarrod Calhoun.
Calhoun, who led the Aggies for two years, recently left to take a head coaching position at his alma mater, Cincinnati.Jacobson has spent the last 20 seasons with Northern Iowa, taking the team to five NCAA appearances. Most notably, according to ESPN, was Northern Iowa's 2010 Sweet 16 run, which saw the ninth-seeded Panthers upset top-seed Kansas. If finalized, Jacobson would become Utah State's fifth coach in seven years following the departure of Calhoun, Craig Smith, Ryan Odom and Danny Sprinkle.
