A bill requiring the Utah State Board of Education to establish standards for mandated firearm safety instruction in public schools for K-12 students advanced through a Utah House committee this week. Currently, Utah code allows for firearm safety instruction in schools but it is optional. HB104, sponsored by Rep. Rex Shipp, R-Cedar City, would make doing so a requirement.
