In this new report, federal investigators accuse TJJD of engaging in a "pattern of abuse" at its five secure facilities across Texas. On the list is the Giddings State School east of Austin in Lee County. The federal report maintains TJJD routinely violates the constitutional rights of children in all five facilities by:Failing to protect children from sexual abuseThe justice department is worried the poor care the children receive in the TJJD system today could haunt them for years to come.
The U.S. Department of Justice notes that Texas Rangers and other state agencies have substantiated allegations of sexual abuse at TJJD facilities before, but the problems continue.
