USAA and its members have donated almost $3 million in hurricane recovery aid. Here's what you can do to help.
In the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton , thousands of Americans are struggling to rebuild their lives. To assist with recovery efforts, USAA and its members have dedicated almost $3 million to support those who have felt the impact of these destructive natural disasters, according to a Saturday news release.
The San Antonio-founded financial services company has received more than 80,000 hurricane-related insurance claims from Helene and Milton as of Saturday, the release states. After making an initial $1 million donation in the wake of Hurricane Helene, USAA has since donated an additional $500,000 to aid military families that have been directly affected by the storms. In total, USAA members have committed nearly $1.4 million in donations to support aid organizations like the American Red Cross, Team Rubicon and World Central Kitchen. Wayne Peacock, president and CEO at USAA, expressed gratitude in the Saturday statement. “We’ve seen the true power of the USAA family in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton,” he said. “We’re grateful to our teammates who are standing tall for members, both with boots on the ground and through phone and digital, and to all our members who are helping to support families in need.” If you’d like to assist with hurricane recovery efforts, officials at USAA recommend volunteering at local food banks, donating blood and donating money to well-vetted charity and non-profit organizations, verified through Charity Navigator or Guidestar.
