United States' Lindsey Vonn at the finish line after crashing, during an alpine ski, women's World Cup downhill, in Crans Montana , Switzerland, Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. Lindsey Vonn took to social media after a scary scene unfolded at a World Cup race Friday in Switzerland where the US skier crashed during a run and had to be airlifted to a hospital.
“I crashed today in the Downhill race in Switzerland and injured my left knee. I am discussing the situation with my doctors and team and will continue to undergo further exams,” Vonn, 41, posted “This is a very difficult outcome one week before the Olympics… but if there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s a comeback. “My Olympic dream is not over. Thank you for all of the love and support. I will give more information when I have it. Thank you to all the medical staff who helped me today. I am grateful for all the incredible help I received.” Vonn, who is making a comeback after nearly six years away from racing, lost control during her run and held her left knee after crashing during the women’s World Cup downhill race. “She has some pain so it’s better to have some checks,” Aksel Lund Svindal, the two-time Olympic champion who joined Vonn’s coaching team this season, told Reuters. “The physio did some checks they seemed OK, but there were things he was not 100% sure so it was good to have it checked .” Lindsey Vonn crashed in her final downhill race before the Winter Olympics on Friday and was airlifted from the course for medical checks, a troubling turn for the 41-year-old U.S. ski star just a week before the Milan Cortina Games.Mark Heim is a senior writer who provides sports, news and trending content.
