MERSING: Motorists have been giving unusual excuses in applying for permission to make interstate travel, say Johor police.
One such excuse is the need to travel interstate to get bamboo to prepare lemang for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
Mersing OCPD Supt Cyril Edwards said the applicant, who wanted to cut bamboo, was among 256 people in the district who wanted to undertake interstate travel. He added that so far, the police had turned back some 65 vehicles at two roadblocks set up in the district, which borders Pahang. Meanwhile, every day the state police are receiving as many as 1,500 applications for interstate travel.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan said from May 16 to May 20, they received a total of 8,638 applications."The reasons given for the applications vary from emergencies, to less important matters such as returning to their hometowns for Hari Raya" he said.Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had earlier said compounds would be waiting for those who attempted to"balik kampung".
