Zach Calzada threw five touchdown passes, and the Cardinals scored the game's final 41 points to notch a big win in their Southland Conference opener.

Incarnate Word made a statement to the rest of the Southland Conference on Saturday night at Tom Benson Stadium , scoring the game's final 41 points en route to throttling Nicholls 55-10 in both teams' conference opener. The win — UIW 's fourth in its last five meetings with the Colonel s — avenged a 45-32 setback from last year that likely cost the Cardinals a spot in the FCS playoffs.

'Every win is important, but this one did have some extra juice to it,' said Calzada, who finished with five touchdown passes. 'We wanted some 'get-back' from last year, but this is also another step for us for the rest of this season.' UIW removed any doubt to the outcome early in the second half.
