Carrying All-America aspirations into his third season with the Cardinals, Dekalon Taylor has blossomed into a speedy weapon out of the backfield.
In early February, six weeks before Incarnate Word stepped on the field for spring practice, running back Dekalon Taylor posted on Twitter that 2024 “is my All-America n season.” “Stamping it right now,” Taylor wrote. “I hope you remember.” Though Taylor was a second-team All-Southland Conference selection as a return specialist last season, a path to All-America status might have been hard to envision.
His longest sprint of the season was two weeks earlier against Northern Arizona, when he found a hole in the left side of the line and broke loose up the sideline for a 97-yard score that helped spark a 38-14 win. “It was actually very meaningful. It felt surreal, almost like it didn’t actually happen,” Taylor said. “I feel like the play panned out perfectly. My guys blocked who they were supposed to block, and it was up to me to just make the play.
