UConn star Braylon Mullins had a strong reaction during the live postgame interview after his game-winning shot to stun Duke.
The UConn Huskies are moving on after an unbelievable finish against Jon Scheyer's No. 1 overall seed, the Duke Blue Devils, thanks to a shot from near halfcourt at just the right moment from Braylon Mullins, who got caught up in the moment, cursing on a hot mic during postgame.
Despite a horrific shooting performance by Dan Hurley's Huskies throughout the game, UConn kept fighting back against Duke, pressuring on defense, and delivering big plays when needed most. With 10 seconds remaining, their defense forced a turnover, and the freshman phenom, Mulluns, nailed a three-pointer from the logo on the court. It left Duke just 0.4 seconds on the clock to respond, with Scheyer drawing up a play during a timeout. However, it would need a full-court heave to work in their favor, which it didn't, as UConn hit the ball away and time expired on the game clock to seal the deal. UConn celebrated a 73-72 win emphatically, with Mullins the major hero after a game of woeful team shooting from three-point range. He and coach Hurley reacted to the game-winning shot in postgame interviews.CBS's sideline reporter, Tracy Wolfson, corralled Mullins on the court for a postgame interview after his teammates pulled him away for a bit of further celebration of the amazing moment. Wolfson asked him about his game-winner, and even Mullins felt stunned at what had just occurred as he connected on the huge shot when UConn needed it most. Mullins, caught up in the excitement of the big moment, let a curse word out as he discussed what happened. "I mean, I don't know. I looked up at the clock, and it said five seconds, so I tried to throw the ball to someone who had made one in the game, and he threw it back. I saw there were three seconds, so just happy to see that s*** go in. I'm so happy," Mullins said. "It was just trying to chip at the lead. One play, one possession at a time. I thought we started the second half with a lot of intensity," he told Wolfson regarding what they were told when down 19 earlier to the No. 1 overall seed. "It feels so good to go home, I can tell you that," he said, regarding the Final Four venue, which is in his home state of Indiana. With that incredible three, Mullins created yet another memorable moment in the Huskies' history, which has seen plenty of heroic shots throughout the various championship runs. Among them are big-time shots late from the likes of UConn legends like Richard"Rip" Hamilton and Kemba Walker, who both propelled their teams to National Championship wins. The freshman finished with 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting with the Huskies shooting just 22 percent from three-point range for the game. From the start, players like Solo Ball, Alex Karaban, and even Mullins seemed ice cold, but kept battling until the final horn.shot when UConn looked as if they were done. However, Taris Reed Jr. had another strong performance, leading UConn with 26 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks as he contended with the likes of Cameron Boozer and other Duke bigs. Next up for UConn is a rematch with the Illinois Fighting Illini, a team they defeated earlier this season. This time, they'll play in the Final Four, with the winner getting a matchup against either the Michigan Wolverines or Arizona Wildcats for the championship.
