Ubisoft is implementing further cost-cutting measures, resulting in the closure of Ubisoft Leamington and layoffs across several studios. The company cites the need to 'prioritize projects and reduce costs' as the reason for these changes.
Ubisoft is implementing a new round of cost-cutting measures, resulting in the closure of a support studio and layoffs across multiple locations. Ubisoft Leamington, a studio of 50 employees situated in Royal Leamington Spa, England, is being shut down. Additionally, the company is laying off staff in Stockholm, Düsseldorf, Germany, and Newcastle, England ( Ubisoft Reflections). In total, approximately 185 employees will be impacted by these restructuring efforts.
Ubisoft cited the need to 'prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability' as the reason for these actions. The company expressed deep gratitude for the contributions of the affected employees and pledged to provide support during this transition. This latest round of layoffs follows a period of turbulence for Ubisoft, marked by the underperformance of several games. In recent months, the company has already closed three studios and laid off 277 workers as part of a broader effort to streamline operations.Amidst these challenges, there have been reports suggesting that Ubisoft is exploring options such as seeking a buyer or forming a joint venture with Tencent, potentially involving some of its assets. Earlier this month, Ubisoft announced its commitment to 'continue to drive significant cost reductions' and stated that it had 'appointed leading advisors to review and pursue various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders.' Ubisoft's flagship franchise, Assassin's Creed, continues to be a reliable performer, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers. While the success of future Assassin's Creed titles could provide a much-needed boost, it remains to be seen if they can single-handedly salvage the company's current financial situation
