U.S. Rep. Colin Allred is taking a play from Vice President Kamala Harris' playbook and roping in high-profile Republicans to support his bid to unseat Ted Cruz, Texas' junior Republican senator. In a tweet, the North Texas Democrat announced he'd formed Republicans for Allred with former U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger serving as co-chair.
U.S. Rep. Colin Allred was elected to office in 2018 by defeating a Republican incumbent in a GOP-leaning district.
" think there's a lot of people in the GOP — because I talk to them — that are embarrassed by Ted Cruz," says Kinzinger, a former Illinois congressman who now resides in Texas."And they're like, you don't have to put a Colin Allred sign in your yard, but nobody's going to be watching when when you go vote that day. And somebody you can be proud of."
"My campaign is open and welcome to conservatives like him, and any Republican ready to turn the page on Ted Cruz," Allred said in his tweet.
