Investigators in Tukwila have named a U.S. Army soldier as the suspect in the murder of a cab driver who was killed on the job in January. According to a police timeline, the murder happened shortly after Spc. Jonathan Kang Lee deserted his army post at Joint Base Lewis-McChord as he was facing child sex assault charges.who was found dead from multiple stab wounds in the parking lot of the Southcenter Mall“I don’t know what to do without him in my life," said Hokema's girlfriend Nicole Sharkody. "It’s so hard without him here." Sharkody told KOMO News she met with military prosecutors this week who are now handling the murder investigation.Family of murdered taxi driver desperate for information as police look for stolen cab Sharkody said she wants to know why Lee was not confined before trial for the child sex assault charges at JBLM. “I also want more accountability in this. I want to know their reasonings, what the assessment questions were," Sharkody said. "I want to know how he answered them, I want to know who felt this was a person that they could safely be let into JBLM with access to vehicles." The Army Criminal Investigation Division said Lee was last seen on the base on Jan. 14. Hokema was found dead the next day in Tukwila. Lee's court martial happened on Jan. 19. While he did not appear at the hearing, he was convicted and sentenced to 64 years of confinement. The connection was not made between Hokema's death and Lee's desertion of the army until Hokema's missing taxi cab was found in Redmond on Jan. 26.The timeline from police suggests Lee interacted with Hokema shortly after leaving JBLM. Jonathan K. Lee is currently in military custody at Joint Base Lewis-McChord serving confinement for sexual assault offenses he was found guilty of at a court-martial on Jan. 19, 2024. Army law enforcement is working closely with the Tukwila Police Department regarding the murder of Mr. Hokema as Lee is a suspect in the case. As a matter of policy, the Army has no further comment as the investigation is ongoing."
