KETTERING, Ohio (WKEF) -- A family reunited after months apart.Jacob Turner, a member of the U.S. Army, has been away from his family for the past seven months
Jacob Turner , a member of the U.S. Army , has been away from his family for the past seven months, and worked with Kettering City Schools to surprise his kids during class on Thursday, April 18.
"Being able to be home with my family means more than I could ever say. They're what keeps me going and what's going to keep me going through my whole Army career," said Turner. Turner surprised his daughter Maddisyn at Oakley Elementary School, and then his son Kolton at Van Buren Middle School."We've had a lot of activities going on to promote the community getting involved, our staff getting involved, the kids appreciation for our military and the service men and women," said Matthew Salyer, principal of Van Buren Middle School.
Both the Turner family and the school district know that it's not easy for students to be away from their parents. "Those students generally tend to understand that that's what's going on, and the reason for that sacrifice, but to be able to reunite them after that is great," Salyer said."I'm going to play with him and probably go to new places with him and stuff," said Maddisyn.Stay Connected
