Authorities are renewing their appeal for information in the unsolved killing of an Austin teenager nearly two years ago.The Travis County Sheriff's Office held
The Travis County Sheriff's Office held a press conference Thursday morning, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Jennifer Boland, lead investigator on the case, said Wilbert "Willie" Vasquez Lopez was fatally shot on Aug. 19, 2022, just minutes before his 18th birthday. The shooting occurred at a mobile home park at 11919 Manchaca Road in Austin.Bowen said that Lopez was on his front porch listening to music when he was shot. He died shortly after midnight.
"We believe two people were involved," Bowen said. She described the suspects as possibly white or Hispanic males, between 5'9" and 5'11" with thin to medium builds. Surveillance video from a neighbor shows a dark-colored, four-door sedan arriving at Lopez's home. Three gunshots were heard, followed by the sound of two car doors closing.
Lopez, a high school senior at the time, was described by classmates as "fun-loving and selfless." Investigators say he had no known enemies or criminal affiliations."His family deserves justice, and Willie deserves justice," Bowen said. "Mom and dad call us, text us, every month asking if there's been any updates or leads in the case and so, we continue to push forward trying to to figure out what exactly happened to Willie that night."at 512-854-1444.
