Two dead, multiple injured in South Austin house fire Wednesday; firefighters rescued victims from rapidly spreading blaze lacking smoke detectors.

The blaze broke out at a home on the 1000 block of South Center Street, in a neighborhood near South 1st Street and Ben White Boulevard. "They continued to make entry into the fire and called for additional units to circle around into the back," De La Reza said. Austin-Travis County EMS Captain Christa Stedman said four patients were treated at the scene. Two adults were transported to hospitals with CPR in progress. Both were later pronounced deceased. A third adult was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with minor injuries, while a fourth patient was treated and released at the scene.
