Wallace was awarded for his work as a licensed therapy dog, while Winston won for his achievements as an exemplary companion dog

Two San Antonio dogs have earned the spotlight for their good deeds. They are among five canines across the nation selected as winners of the 2024 American Kennel Club ’s Humane Fund Awards for Canine Excellence. Wallace , an Old English sheepdog belonging to Allison LaField of San Antonio , and Winston , an All-American dog owned by Jeff Wells of San Antonio , are among the dogs recognized for going above and beyond. Wallace won partly because of his hard work as a licensed therapy dog.

He also helps detect seizures that she suffers. LaField, 61, a competitive swimmer, said she was trying to retrieve her robotic swimming pool cleaner from the water when she suffered her first-ever seizure.

Since then, they have been participating regularly in the American Kennel Club’s agility competitions. “The mental stimulation has provided healing for Wells and an unbreakable bond between Wells and Winston,” according to the American Kennel Club’s press release announcing the winners. In 2023, Winston won his first Masters Agility Championship award.
