Two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) with their four high-powered firearms surrendered to the soldiers belonging to the Philippine Army’s 501st Infantry Brigade in Regaay, Hacienda Intal, Baggao, Cagayan. | ManilaBulletin

Major Rigor Pamittan, spokesperson of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division, confirmed on Thursday, April 6, the surrender of the two NPA rebels with their two bushmaster rifles and two M-16 Armalite rifles.

The two NPA rebels, whose identities were withheld due to security reasons, decided to return to the fold of law as they can no longer tolerate the hunger they are experiencing and are tired of hiding from the authorities. The two former rebels admitted that they were involved in the encounters between the NPA and the soldiers in Baggao and Gattaran, both in Cagayan, in the previous months.

Upon surrendering to the soldiers, the two rebels told the soldiers the location of the cache of the four high-powered guns. Pamittan said the two NPA rebels are now under the custody of the Army 501st Infantry Brigade while the processing of their benefits through the firearms remuneration program of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program is being undertaken.
