LUCENA CITY – Police and Army soldiers raided on Wednesday a marijuana nursery and arrested three suspected maintainers in Calauag town in Quezon province.

Quezon police chief Colonel Ledon Monte said Thursday, April 6, that a team of anti-narcotics operatives and soldiers swooped down on the secluded part of Barangay Bantolinao. The suspects, all rookies in the illegal drug trade, were not on the police watch list. The raiders uprooted 670 newly planted marijuana seedlings and confiscated 51 grams of dried marijuana tops, the street value of which was not specified in the report.

Ledon attributed the discovery of the marijuana plants to the information provided by an unidentified drug suspect arrested earlier. He said the government’s anti-illegal drugs operatives with the active participation of the community would continue to scour the mountains of Quezon to ensure that no marijuana plantation would thrive in the province.

The suspects were placed in police custody and will face charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
