News4′s First Alert Weather Team has declared First Alert Weather Days for Tuesday, January 21, and Wednesday, January 22

“Confidence continues to increase in a snow-maker across the Wiregrass starting Tuesday afternoon into the evening hours. Accumulation is looking more and more likely, with the ECMWF ensembles indicating a 50-70% chance that most of the area sees more than an inch of snow. Perhaps a few inches, according to the latest data.

If this holds, travel will become difficult by later Tuesday afternoon. Even though skies clear later Tuesday night, bitterly cold air will keep the landscape frozen until at least midday Wednesday. Some icy spots on the roads could linger into Thursday, given current indications. Some fluctuations are still possible. It’s hard to pin-down snow totals until we’re a day or two out. Winter storms this far south are RARE! There could be some sleet or freezing rain over parts of the Florida Panhandle into Southwest Georgia, but much of the area may actually see snow! Even down to the beaches. Crazy. More updates to come as I track the ebbs and flows in the data.”News4 will provide live coverage on TV and online as needed.
