Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is fighting back against a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination, prostitution, and drug use within the company. TSMC filed a motion to seal the details of the amended lawsuit, arguing that the additional claims are unrelated to the original complaint and are intended to cause public scandal.
On Thursday, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ( TSMC ) submitted a response to a lawsuit filed late last year concerning alleged discrimination within the company's hiring and promotion practices. The initial lawsuit, filed in August 2024, by a woman alleged that TSMC favored employees of Asian descent. Since then, the amended lawsuit has expanded to encompass nearly 30 plaintiffs, raising additional claims of misconduct involving prostitution and drug use.
In its Thursday filing, TSMC requested the court to seal the lawsuit's details, arguing that the alleged 'tales' are unrelated to the original complaint of racial discrimination and should be excluded. '\u201cPlaintiffs aim to file a 162-page amendment full of lurid, fabricated stories with no relevance to their legal claims and for the purpose of promoting public scandal and defaming TSMC,\u201d the company stated in its filing. TSMC's filing further asserts that some of the amended complaints against them contain confidential information about employee misconduct, allegedly produced by an HR employee, thereby violating HR practices, and breaching the company's proprietary information and inventions agreement.
