AmaZulu FC coach Brandon Truter has expressed concerns about Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo.
Truter and Ngcobo have worked together at Richards Bay FC and reunited at Swallows where they made history as Ngcobo won the Defender of the Season gong. The Usuthu interim coach says the growth of the defender doesn't surprise him and that people should remember that he is an AmaZulu FC product. "I'm not surprised by Njabulo Ngcobo's growth, he has taken South African football by surprise and he is a product of AmaZulu. We had him at Richards Bay FC and recommended him to Uthongathi, and then signed him at Swallows," Truter told the media this week.
"Defender of the Season, then moved to play in the midfield. I'm sitting outside with many questions. He has to have 360 degree awareness. I feel there are games he should be doing better and somewhere he excels." Ngcobo moved on to Kaizer Chiefs where the youngster has since changed positions. Truter doesn't understand why a player of his calibre should change positions to accommodate others.
"It doesn't make sense that the best defender in South Africa plays in midfield to accommodate other players. It doesn't make sense, but we have to respect coach Stuart Baxter. He can only relate to what he sees in training or how he set up his team."
