'In this country, we cannot criminalize political differences,' he said. 'We do not abuse the law enforcement and intelligence power to target our political opponents when they spy on me. Whoever heard of this? They spied on me; they spied on our political campaign, who would think that's possible?'
Though Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian collusion has ended, President Donald Trump and his 2016 campaign remain at the center of five other queries from Democrats in the House of Representatives.
"The Democrats have to now decide whether they will continue defrauding the public with ridiculous bulls--t, partisan investigations, or whether they will apologize to the American people and join us to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, bring down the cost of health care and prescription drugs… help us fix our broken trade deals," Trump said.
Trump frequently referenced Democrats and the"fake news" media in the speech, often listing them together when talking about the Mueller investigation or the criticism he and the Trump administration receive. "In this country, we cannot criminalize political differences," he said."We do not abuse the law enforcement and intelligence power to target our political opponents when they spy on me. Whoever heard of this? They spied on me; they spied on our political campaign, who would think that's possible?"
Trump also poked at the reaction from the Democratic party to the 300-page Mueller Report and the subsequent four-page summary released by Attorney General William Barr. While Barr wrote that Mueller could neither prove nor exonerate Trump for obstruction of justice and found no evidence of Trump's campaign colluding with Russia, many Democrats have demanded to see the full report from Mueller rather than take the word of Barr.
