Published: Nov. 12, 2024, 6:35 p.m.An Alabamian won’t be leading the Pentagon for the second consecutive administration after Donald Trump said Tuesday he intends to nominate Fox News host and decorated war veteran Pete Hegseth for defense secretary.Had he be nominated by Trump and confirmed by the Senate, Rogers would have been the second straight Alabamian to be defense secretary.“I am honored to announce that I have nominated Pete Hegseth to serve in my Cabinet as The Secretary of Defense.
Hegseth, a Fox News host for eight years, graduated from Princeton University and Harvard University, and is an Army veteran who served in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq and Afghanistan.“Nobody fights harder for the Troops, and Pete will be a courageous and patriotic champion of our ‘Peace through Strength’ policy,” Trump said.
The key test, however, will be loyalty and a willingness to do whatever Trump wants, as he seeks to avoid the pushback he got from the Pentagon the first time around.
