It is forecast to move through the Leeward Islands late Friday and near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend.
Tropical Storm Fiona was located about 580 miles east of, and tropical storm watches were issued for Saba and St. Eustatius, St. Maarten, Antigua, Barbuda, St. Kitts, Nevis, Montserrat, and Anguilla, forecasters said.
“Interests in the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico should monitor the progress of this system,” the agency said.At 5 a.m. EDT on Thursday, the tropical storm was moving at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of about 50 mph, forecasters said. Little change in strength is forecast during the next few days.Fiona is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with isolated higher amounts across the northern Leeward Islands, the British and U.S.
“On the forecast track, the center of Fiona is forecast to move through the Leeward Islands late Friday and Friday night, and move near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this weekend,” the hurricane center advisory said.
