JUST IN | A new advisory from the National Hurricane Center shows Tropical Depression 7 has become Tropical Storm Fiona.
The updated 9:45 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center showed the system with winds of 50 mph. Another track advisory was expected to be posted at 11 p.m.The depression is about 645 miles east of the Leeward Islands.
No watches are in effect but will likely be issued Wednesday or early Thursday for portions of the northern Lesser Antilles. On its current forecast track, the system will impact portions of the northern Lesser Antilles, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Those islands may receive heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
The updated forecast now has the system maintaining tropical storm status as it moves northward away from Hispaniola. The long-term track on this depression remains unknown, however, more models continue to push it northward.Copyright 2022 by WJXT News4JAX - All rights reserved.
