The second day of the trial of Ibraheem Yazeed, accused of kidnapping and murdering Aniah Blanchard, featured testimony from multiple witnesses. Evidence from Blanchard's vehicle, along with accounts of Yazeed's actions following the disappearance, were presented. The defense challenged the prosecution's case, raising questions about the evidence and the investigation's scope. The trial continues with Yazeed facing severe penalties if convicted.
The second day of the trial for Ibraheem Yazeed , the man accused of kidnapping and murdering Aniah Blanchard in 2019, saw three more witnesses taking the stand on Tuesday. The prosecution presented evidence and testimony aimed at establishing Yazeed's involvement in the crime, while the defense sought to cast doubt on the prosecution's case.
The witnesses provided crucial details about the events surrounding Aniah's disappearance, including evidence collected from her damaged vehicle and observations of Yazeed's behavior in the days following the alleged kidnapping.\The first witness to testify was a former Montgomery crime scene investigator who had processed Aniah Blanchard's vehicle for evidence. The investigator detailed the findings, which included a fired shell casing, a backpack, a glass pipe, possible blood pools in the carpet, and a possible cleaning agent dripping down the glovebox. The investigator explained the processes used to gather and document the evidence, but also acknowledged limitations in the investigation. They testified that they were unaware of any evidence linking the shell casings to Yazeed. The defense questioned the investigator about the possibility of a struggle having taken place inside the vehicle, prompting a response that it was a possibility. Furthermore, the investigator confirmed that no fingerprints of Yazeed had ever been found, and they had not tested for Aniah’s fingerprints, adding that the vehicle was not tested for cleaning products as it was not something the forensics lab was believed to be able to do. The investigator also clarified that their involvement was limited to tasks requested by the Auburn Police Department, the lead agency in the investigation.\The second and third witnesses were family members of Antwon “Squirmy” Fisher, who provided testimony about their encounter with Yazeed the morning after Aniah was last seen alive. Antwon “Squirmy” Fisher’s daughter recalled Yazeed appearing at their house between 3 and 4 a.m., asking for a ride. She noted that Yazeed was barefoot and visibly dirty. She testified that he wouldn’t disclose why he needed a ride or what had occurred before arriving. The grandfather, David Johnson Jr. (“Big Dave”), testified that he initially refused to give Yazeed a ride, but eventually allowed his son, “Squirmy”, to drive Yazeed. Johnson then recounted noticing a black SUV with its taillights on around the same time and found it unusual why Yazeed would be asking for a ride if he already had a vehicle. He was later forced to call his stepdaughter to get his grandchild to school because his vehicle hadn’t been returned. He stated that he called Squirmy and Yazeed answered the phone, saying they were on their way back. Johnson said that he woke up around 3 p.m. to find that Squirmy had returned with his truck. The trial is scheduled to continue on Wednesday. If convicted, Yazeed faces either life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty
