Trey Reaves has paddled 650 miles along the Alabama Scenic River route and emerged victorious in this year's race, marking his second consecutive win. Completing the challenging trek in 7 days, 3 hours, and 20 minutes, he faced grueling conditions including choppy waters caused by Hurricane Helene.

This year, he’s the grand champion. “There’s a whitewater section through the race, you have rivers and open lakes and this huge section of open water down at the bay. Because of that, you get to swap boats. They’ll let you take as many boats as you want to,” said Reaves.“People would come out at 2 in the morning and be like, ‘we’re watching the tracker, Trey! Good job! And it’s really, really neat,” he added.“It’s 75 percent mental. Don’t get me wrong- you’ve got to train and you’ve got to put a lot of hours into kayaking.
“26 mile an hour winds and big waves the whole way. If you got down in the middle of two of the waves, you couldn’t see anything except for waves on both sides of you,” he explained.
